Archiving your IMAP Email using Windows Live Mail

To archive your email using Windows Live Mail, you can use the import /export feature in Windows Live Mail.

When logged onto your email account via IMAP, you can export your email as a file to your desktop or C drive. Once saved on your PC, you can then import the saved file back into Windows Live Mail so you have permanent local copy of your mail.

 

Exporting emails from Windows Live Mail  

  1. On your Keyboard, press the “ALT” key,this should get the Menu bar to appear on Windows Live Mail.  
  2. Click on “File”  ‐>  “Export”  ‐>  “Messages...”  
  3. On SELECT PROGRAM window, Select  “Windows  Live  Mail”,  then click “Next”  
  4. On “LOCATION OF MESSAGES” window, Click  “Browse...”  and  Select a suitable location to save you exported emails to, then  click  “Next”  
  5. On “SELECT FOLDERS” window, select  “All  folders” or the folder you wish to export,  then  click  “Next”  
  6. You should see the EXPORT COMPLETE window. Click “Finish”.  

 

NOTE:  To access your backed up/exported emails, you will need to Import them back into Windows Live Mail.

 

Import emails to Windows Live Mail  

 On your Keyboard, press the “ALT” key, this should get the Menu bar to appear on Windows Live Mail.  

  1. Click on “File”  ‐>  “Import”  ‐>  “Messages...”  
  2. On “SELECT PROGRAM” window, select  “Windows Live Mail”,  then  click  “Next”  
  3. On LOCATION OF MESSAGES” folder, click “Browse...”  and Select a suitable location to save your exported emails to, then click “Next”  
  4. On SELECT FOLDERS” window, select “All folders”, then click “Next”  
  5. You should see the IMPORT COMPLETE window. Click “Finish”.  
  6. You mail should now be accessible in Windows Live Mail
