Deprecation of Parallels Presence Builder [updated]
Posted by Helpdesk Admin on 15 October 2019 08:23 PM

The Parallels Web Presence builder product was introduced in 2012 as a free add-on to our hosting.

Although still in use by a small number of customers, this has been largely supplanted by WordPress and other tools over the past seven years as it has minimal support for mobile devices.

Parallels Presence Builder is now end-of-life and is no longer supported as an active product.

It will continue to work on our systems until at least Q3 in 2020 after which it will no longer be possible to publish websites (already published websites will still display after that time). Published pages will still be available via FTP for download and modification using a local HTML editor - this will allow minor modifications to text content etc. to be made, however ongoing design will not be possible.

We recommend customers move to a newer web design solution before that time - usually this will mean designing a new website, however it is usually possible to copy & paste most page content to your new website.

For most situations, we recommend installing WordPress as per the video linked below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U1CbKWgLAs

(it is possible to install and build a WordPress site while leaving the current site visible until you are ready to go live with the new site)

There are also many available cloud based and downloadable web design tools (some free) that can be used to deploy a new website via FTP.

NicePage: https://nicepage.com/download

CoffeeCup: https://www.coffeecup.com/free-editor/

Dreamweaver: https://www.adobe.com/ie/products/dreamweaver.html

[Update 6/7/2020]

Presence builder is now fully end-of-life so should no longer be used, please consider using another website design tool.

Websites will continue to display OK, however the ability to update will be removed in the near future.

[Update 24/11/2020]

The presence builder is now fully defunct (existing websites will still display but publishing will no longer be possible).

Site files are accessible via File Manager and FTP to allow downloading, editing and re-uploading of minor changes using a local text of HTML editor on your PC.
