Differences between Postini Message Filtering and Symantec.cloud
Posted by Helpdesk Admin on 30 May 2013 04:19 PM

The following are the key practical differences between the discontinued Professional Spam Filtering Service (PSF) powered by Postini, and and the new Symantec.cloud Email Security service that is included in our "Secure Email Domain" product (SED).

Filtering:

PSF filtering took place in a Google/Postini US based data centre, the SED service is delivered from Symantec.cloud servers the EU.

Administration:

With PSF, if you needed to add new users, you had to contact Irish Domains or a reseller to do this. With SED, the account administrator can register new addresses singly or in bulk via the Symantec.cloud portal.

With SED, automated address synchronization with active directory or LDAP is possible for users with their own email systems.

With SED, the administrator can configure the disposition of messages stopped at different parts of the processes, messages can be blocked, quarantined, tagged, or delivered to a nominated mailbox.

Quarantine:

With PSF, all users have an individual Message Centre. With SED, quarantine is not enabled by default, but the the account administrator can decide if Quarantine is enabled and whether users can log on to the Spam Manager console.

Notifications:

With PSF, user notifications were fixed, with SED the administrator can define the frequency of notifications and if quarantined messages can be released by end-users.
