How do I upgrade a parked customer domain to web hosting ?

Often the first thing you do for a customer is to register some domain names in order to hold them temporarily before setting up a website or other services. If the domain name(s) in question are all on a simple parking subscription (or other package such as email forwarding, or email only) then you can upgrade this easily to full web hosting as follows ...

  • Log on to your reseller control panel
  • Click Billing in top-right to access Parallels Billing Automation.
  • Click Operation Director > Account Manager > Customers
  • Click on the customer (or use the search facility)
  • Click Subscriptions and click the parking subscription name (not the domain subscription) that the domains are on.
(This will probably be called 'Free Parking' or "Default NS Subscription' etc.)
  • Click Switch Plan to upgrade the subscription.
  • A list of compatible package types will be displayed - select the one you require.
  • Click Next>>
  • Select the Subscription Period to apply to the new package.
  • Click Next>>
  • Click Place Order (please note price shown is your price to your customer)

At this point, the order is created and in the system, but is has status New and will not be processed yet.

Once your order is complete, you can process it now, or return to process it later (maybe once payment has been received) ...

  • Click Operation DirectorSales Manager > Customer Orders
  • Locate the order and click on it to view.
  • Click Open Order to commence processing
  • You can check the status of the order periodically.

Note that in certain situations, it is not appropriate to simply upgrade a parking. Typically this would be when there are many domains on a parking package and you only wish to host some of them, or when the desired service plan is not available as an upgrade. In these cases, the correct procedure is first to create a new hosting package for that customer (on no specific domain), then you can switch individual domains between plans (see separate article on this).
