How to update WHOIS information on a domain

Please note the following does not apply to .ie domains as .ie changes need to be submitted in writing and accepted by the IE Domain Registration Office.

 


IMPORTANT: For ICANN regulated domains (.com, net, info, org, etc), changes to the registrant information on a domain will automatically impose a 60 day transfer lock on the domain. During this period, the domain cannot be transferred between registrars.

 


 

Where domain contact details are to be the same as the Control panel user details.

  1. Update your contact details for your control panel: (See Article "updating your contact details")
  2. Update contact details with domain registrar
    • Select "Registered Domains"
    • Click on the domain name you wish to update
    • Click on Button "manage contacts"
    • Click on button "Update Contacts"

  ** Repeat 2 above if you need to update more than 1 domain

Change may take several hours to be reflected in Public "Whois" database


Where domain contact details are to be different from control panel contact details
  1. First you need to create a new User with the new contact information
    • Select "Account" from main menu
    • Select "Admins"
    • Click on "Add New Admin"
    • Create a new Admin for the account
  2. Update new contact details with domain registrar
    • Select "Registered Domains"
    • Click on the domain name you wish to update
    • Click on Button "manage contacts"
    • Click on the select option icon for Owner, Admin, Billing, or Tech as required
    • Select the new admin
    • Click on button "Update Contacts"

 

  ** Repeat 2 above if you need to update more than 1 domain

Change may take several hours to be reflected in Public "Whois" database

Important Note about registrant contact email address.

As per the new ICANN Registrant verification procedures, the email address on many top-level domains must now be verified as working.
